Residential Program Counselor

A. Position Location/Pertinent Information:

Location: 1 North Matlack Street, West Chester, PA 19380

Employment/FLSA Status: Permanent, Non-Exempt, Part-Time

High school diploma/GED required. Employees are required to pass FBI/Criminal/Child/Driver license background checks. Employee must maintain a valid drivers’ license and current automobile insurance. Employee cannot be on the Federal ineligibility list.

All employees will adhere to Recovery Principles as employees of Human Services, Inc. (See attached document). Staff will participate in annual Recovery training and will utilize Recovery tools in the provision of services such as Personal Medicine, Power Statements, Common Ground, community integration and natural supports.

B. Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with residents.
  2. Promote activities and skill building techniques that support the Mental Health Recovery Model.
  3. Plan and facilitate Mental Health education and support groups.
  4. Develop and encourage social and recreational activities with residents.
  5. Document interactions with residents in files and staff log.
  6. Participate in staff meetings, trainings and resident meetings as scheduled.
  7. Support and educate residents in being responsible tenants in order to maintain their housing, such as paying rent on time, reporting maintenance requests and maintaining the cleanliness of unit.
  8. Assist residents in medication management, budgeting and other activities of daily living.
  9. Monitor the preparation of cafeteria meals.
  10. Transport residents in the agency van.
  11. Perform other job-related duties as required.
  12. Although an employee is assigned to a particular program, he/she may be transferred or reassigned to another program on either a temporary or permanent basis, depending upon the needs of the Agency and its consumers.
